Food Waste Challenge Starting This Month!

Did you know...

And meanwhile...
1/5 US children struggle with hunger
The best option is to avoid wasting food by limiting the amount you buy and put on your plate. After that, additional steps can be taken:

The Soka cafeteria already sends all food wastes from the kitchen to become compost--which new food can be grown in. However, food wastes from our plates cannot be composted unless they are separated. This would be too much work for the cafeteria, so it will not happen unless we learn to separate out our own wastes before putting away our plates.

LET'S RESOLVE TO WASTE NO FOOD IN 2O14!

Please support ED's FOOD WASTE CHALLENGE! Look for information in the cafeteria and on Facebook.

The Amazing Vanishing Dishware

Have you noticed forks and cups missing at meal times?

Did you know that if dishes are left in the refuse room they are thrown away? Facilities is not paid to clean up our dirty dishes. It's not a maid service.

Did you know that Bon Appetit spent A LOT of money replacing dishes that disappeared last year? That's a waste of money and resources.

Let's all act like adults so that we will be treated like adults by Soka faculty and staff. Please be responsible and return dishware to the cafeteria, because it belongs to all of us.

Kellog's Cereal Just Got Even Sweeter

Bon Appetit, with ED's support, has decided to partner with Kellogg's on their Eat, Share, Prosper program. This means that for the month of October, Kellogg's will donate one case of cereal to a local food bank for each case of cereal that Bon Appetit Purchases--at no extra cost to Bona Apetit or Soka.

This is the food bank we will be donating to this year.

Translation = each time you eat cereal this month, you are helping provide food to people in the local community who have poor access to food!

So here's your chance to eat as much cereal as you want without feeling guilty. :)

If you have any questions about this campaign, please contact one of your ED chairs or Michelle at the cafeteria.

Cheers!
