Energy Challenge April 2014

In case you somehow missed the chalk drawing outside... today marks the kickoff for
Sustainability Committee's
Energy Challenge.

The goal: to become aware of a reduce energy use in the dorms

Every day this week, we'll be posting both a digital and a chalk graph of each dorm's energy use. You don't have to attend any events, collect any signatures, or even socialize--all you have to do is look at the charts and, from the comfort of your own room, try to use less electricity.

Don't step on it, please!

We measure by kWh per person, meaning that res halls with more students will not automatically be at a disadvantage. The res hall that uses the least electricity at the end of the week will get a pizza party (or something like that) to celebrate.

Using less electricity...
-Reduces fossil fuel use
-Reduces greenhouse gas emissions
-Reduces pollution
(Basically, all the bad things)

Ways to use less:
-Unplug your phone/computer after it finishes charging
-Unplug any devices not currently in use and avoid vampire power
-Open your blinds and use natural light during the day
-Make sure all your lights are off when you leave the room
-Check out energy use on campus yourself anytime with the Energy Dashboard, which can be found through the Sustainability Committee Portal Page (on the right side.)
